shin splints

Shin splints is  a term commonly used to describe pain in the front part of the lower leg. The term shin splints was actually derived from horses, who have a splint bone that can become painful if overtrained.

Shin splints (in humans!) are generally caused by an overload to the lower leg muscles, causing an irritation of where they attach to the tibia, the main lower leg bone.
